The 1986 Asia Cup, also known as the John Player Gold Leaf Trophy, was the second-ever Asia Cup tournament. It happened in Sri Lanka from March 30 to April 6. There were three teams in the tournament: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. India decided not to play this time because they didn’t have a good relationship with Sri Lanka. Bangladesh got the chance to play instead because they won the 1984 South-East Asia Cup.

In the 1986 Asia Cup, each team played against the others once. The top two teams then played in the final. Pakistan won all their matches and reached the final against Sri Lanka. But Sri Lanka managed to beat Pakistan and won their first Asia Cup title.
